Artist Information
Want to play a show at Collected Sounds?
Some things to know…
If you’ve stumbled onto this page and are interested in playing a Collected Sounds house concert here are some things to know about booking.
Since this is my home and I do have a full time job on top of all the Collected Sounds stuff, I cannot do more than one show a month. I usually don’t do any in December because of the holidays. So that means 11 artists a year. I already have at least 20 that want to play here that I want to have, so the odds of me agreeing to someone brand new are not all that great. But not impossible either. Especially if I am already a fan of your music.
I prefer to only book folks I have seen live already or am already familiar with. So if you are playing in the Minneapolis area any time soon and are interested in this in the future, please let me know and let me know when and where the show is. If I think your music is a good fit for this series I will try and come. Then we can see what we can do.
If we are already “in talks” about you playing here, the rest of this info is for you!
I live in the Uptown area of Minneapolis, MN.
What you get Money-wise:
I cannot guarantee a dollar amount. But I do give the artist 100% of the s that come in. I suggest $15 or so, some put in less, some put in more. It usually balances out OK. CD sales are usually really good.
Attendance:
I can seat up to 25 guests on chairs and sofas, many more if they don’t mind sitting on the floor. I could probably fit 40 if pressed (up against each other!). The room is 18′x33′. My usual attendance is around 20. But I’ve had up to 40 and as low as 7.
Advertisement:
I do believe the artist and I share the responsibility to fill the room. There is a good chance most of my guest list doesn’t know the artist and are coming based on my recommendation alone. So the artist needs to also bring in their fan base. Advertisement however, needs to be kept to online, mailing list and minimal radio/newspaper. The more it is publicized the more I look like a business and that’s a sure way to get shut down.
Location:
My address is confidential. Once given to the artist it is not to be posted on the Internet or anywhere else. Guests are given the exact location once they RSVP. I cannot have random folks showing up at the door since it’s my home. Anyone without a reservation will not be allowed in unless they are a guest of someone who did RSVP.
The Show:
The show is usually about two hours start to finish. Figure play for 45 minutes, take a 15-minute break, and play for another 30-45 minutes. But I am totally open to changes on this.
I like to record the show. I don’t use it for anything but my listening pleasure. I will never sell it. I have given some away to folks who religiously come to my shows as a thank you, but only with artist permission. The artist gets a copy too.
The artist may play either acoustic/unplugged or plugged in. Currently I do have a have mics and stands (2) and a mixer and sepaker
The artist is free to set up a merchandise table near the food.
I put out light munchies and non-alcoholic beverages and then ask for a venue donation to chip in for that. I usually spend at least $100 for the party, not including dinner for the artist, so I’d like to be able to recoup some for that. It never comes close, but that’s OK. I obviously don’t do this for the money!
I have three large and goofy dogs (who do not have the best manners, but are very sweet). They are jumpy and one is kind of obnoxious and might try and sing along. But at times we don’t even notice they’re here.
I offer to buy the artist dinner the night of the show, though it’s not often the artist gets here in time for that. But it’s an option if it works out.
I also offer a place to stay. I have a guest bedroom with a comfy bed. I also have a slightly uncomfortable futon in another room that could do in a pinch for extra folks.
If dinner doesn’t work and you are staying with us, I’ll treat you to breakfast. We have some great breakfast spots near here.
